How could I forget Dolly?

Man, talk about forgotten photos. I recently found some band group shots I took almost a year ago(!) but pretty much forgot about after delivered the images. I found some good stuff in the folder, so I sorted out my favorites for editing ... only to find out the next day that the band had already broken up. Whoops.

I put up a handful of pictures up anyways, just 'cause I thought the stood on their own as interesting pictures. I particularly like this top-down take on Dolly (the band was called The Dolly Partners). Not sure which one I prefer.

Ah, engagement portraits. These are always fun because each couple's joint personality eventually comes through. I don't really have any skill at posing people, so I just point the camera, make some jokes, serve some beer, and let them go. Usually works out. Although, with Leslie and Bryan, there were an inordinate amount of hilarious, but utterly unusable out-takes. Will get those up soon.

We know drama

Over the last year, mainly thanks to Austinist, I've found that play rehearsals are among my favorite subjects. They set up bright lights for you, then act out inherently dramatic encounters. What more could a photographer ask for? Really, I have no idea why some pubs, primarily the New Yorker, insist on doing shlocky, static portraits of cast members in a studio whenever they write about a play.

This is from "Thrush", the newest production from Austin's Salvage Vanguard Theater and the first in their new performance space back in my old Eastside 'hood.

This time from just last night, also with my strobes. Eric Uhlir's going to show me the ropes on some super-fancy soft-boxy stuff soon. I'd really like to nail down a preferred set of equipment so I can go about learning its ins and outs. I'm still never happy with the stuff I shoot with my flash units.
